Classic Romance at a Hilton President Kansas City Wedding

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when a wedding day perfectly balances traditional reverence with a high-energy celebration. This weekend, I had the honor of capturing a day that was as thoughtful as it was breathtaking—from a golden glowing Hilton President Kansas City wedding reception to a stunning St. Michael the Archangel Leawood wedding ceremony. The whole day went smoothly thanks to the bride and groom and the amazing team at Events with Kristen.

A Traditional Catholic Ceremony at St. Michael the Archangel in Leawood, KS

The day began at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish in Leawood, KS. For a wedding photographer, this parish is a dream. It is a colorful, modern yet traditional cruciform church. Unlike many traditional parishes where movement is restricted, the cruciform shape of St. Michael’s allows for incredible angles and perspectives that truly capture the scale of the ceremony.

The bride was a vision in a jacquard ballgown with elegant off-the-shoulder straps from Emily Hart Bridal. Her look was completed by a dramatic long veil with a blusher and perfect hair and makeup done by Fix Beauty Co. One of the most touching moments of the day was the processional; as they reached the altar, the bride’s father gently removed her blusher before handing her off to the groom.

Following a traditional Catholic wedding Mass, the couple made their joyful exit as husband and wife. Before leaving Leawood, we took advantage of the church’s unique architecture, capturing some “strong statement” portraits of the groom by the back doors of the parish.

Portraits at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

We moved to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art for wedding party portraits. Despite it being prom season and the grounds being filled with students, we navigated the crowds to find pockets of quiet beauty. We utilized the deep greenery and soft shade to highlight the bridesmaids’ summery light pink dresses, which popped beautifully against the museum’s iconic landscape. The florals, provided by Flowers by Emily—classic white roses and delicate baby’s breath—added a timeless touch to every frame.

The Reception: A Glowing Hilton President Kansas City Wedding

The celebration then moved to the heart of downtown for a Hilton President Kansas City wedding reception. While guests enjoyed signature cocktails on the mezzanine during cocktail hour, I snuck into the ballroom to capture the decor.

If you are looking for a romantic, warm, and upscale atmosphere, the Hilton President is unmatched. The ballroom was absolutely glowing. With dark, warm lighting, massive crystal chandeliers, and golden walls, the entire room felt like a dream. The combination of centerpiece candles, mirrors, and golden accents created a rich, intimate atmosphere that felt both grand and cozy.

Exquisite Details and a Choreographed Celebration

The evening was filled with thoughtful touches. From the multi-tiered classic wedding cake from McLain’s Bakery, to the champagne toasts, every moment felt intentional. One of my favorite small details? The Hilton President’s dinnerware. Even the coffee cups were so beautiful I found myself photographing them before the coffee was even served!

The dance floor opened with a sweet first dance from the newlyweds, followed by a high-energy, choreographed mother-son dance that officially kicked off the party.

The Grand Exit: A Ribbon Wand Send-Off

The night concluded with a whimsical exit. Family and friends lined the hall with ribbon wands, waving the couple off as they made their way into the elevator. It was the perfect end to a day defined by romance, intimacy, and timeless Kansas City style.
